I don’t know about you, but sometimes my summers can feel like I’m in weekly vacation mode. The kids are home so sticking to your typical wellness routine becomes more of a challenge. There are also a lot more cookouts and parties, which means more indulging in tasty treats and drinks. By the end of the summer, I’m in need of a good cleansing and some rejuvenation.
Enter- the post-summer detox. Now, I’m not a huge fan of intense cleanses or detoxes, since I am a busy mom and business owner and anything too complicated, I probably won’t follow through with. So, I am going to cover some simple, easy-to-implement ways to detox and give yourself a nice refresh, inside and out.
First, what exactly is detoxification?
Detoxification refers to the body’s natural process of eliminating toxins and waste products. This is mainly handled by organs like the liver, kidneys, lungs, and skin. While the body is capable of detoxifying itself, certain additional methods can help support and enhance these natural processes.
Tip 1: Hydrate with Warm Lemon Water
Start your day by drinking one or two large glasses of warm water with fresh lemon juice. This helps to cleanse the liver and kickstart your metabolism, making it an excellent way to begin your post-summer detox. Staying hydrated is crucial for flushing out toxins accumulated during the summer months.
Tip 2: Increase Vegetable Intake
Focus on incorporating more vegetables into your diet, particularly cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, kale, and Brussels sprouts. These vegetables are rich in fiber and sulfur, which support the detoxification process in the liver. Aim for at least five servings of non-starchy vegetables daily to help bind and eliminate toxins from your body.
Tip 3: Limit Processed Foods and Sugars
Cutting out processed foods, refined sugars, and alcohol is essential for a detox. They can burden the liver and hinder its ability to function optimally. Instead, try to stick to whole foods like lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats to nourish your body while promoting detoxification.
Tip 4: Detoxifying Sauna Sessions
Infrared saunas use infrared lamps to heat your body’s tissue directly creating a deep detoxifying sweat, whereas a dry sauna heats the air around you.
When using an infrared sauna, the core body temperature increases and stimulates sweat production, expelling toxins from the body. The combination of infrared light improves vascular access flow to reach toxins at the cellular level, which are mobilized from deeper tissues and eliminated through the skin.
In a traditional dry sauna, 95-97 % of your sweat is water, with salt making up the remainder. Sweat from an Infrared contains 80-85% water, the rest cholesterol, fat-soluble toxins, toxic heavy metals, sulfuric acid, sodium, ammonia, and uric acid.
For the best results, we recommend using an infrared sauna 2-3 times per week. We do have packages and memberships available, including unlimited memberships. You may also enjoy the sauna in combination with a facial, massage or body treatment (an infrared sauna session is included).
Tip 5: Deep Cleansing Facial
Purify the skin, detox, and help draw out impurities, then give a dose of hydration and a brightening boost with a deeply cleansing facial treatment at citron.
If you need a treatment that focuses more on targeting congestion, breakouts, dehydration and dullness, we would recommend the Glo Detox Facial. This facial includes an AHA exfoliation and a two-part layering approach combining the clinical benefits of Glo Skin Beauty Charcoal Detox mask and Soothing Cucumber Gel Mask. This treatment also combines the power of touch, aromas, and massage for deep relaxation to promote overall well-being and balance.
Tip 6: Detox Your Mind
Ridding yourself of negative thoughts and self-talk is another important element of a whole-body cleanse.
Some of the best ways to cleanse the mind of stressful thinking is to:
Meditate
Gratitude
Yoga
Mindfulness
We hope these tips helped give you a post-summer rejuvenation, inside and out.
Be well,
